Development Needs for Environmentally Friendly Plasticizers

In recent years, as environmental awareness has grown worldwide, plastic products such as pharmaceutical and food packaging, daily necessities, and toys have demanded higher purity and cleanliness standards for primary plasticizers. Eco-friendly plasticizers have gained a broad market and increasing attention. However, primary plasticizers currently produced by domestic companies often fail to meet environmental requirements in many aspects, particularly regarding cleanliness and low toxicity.

Citrate esters, as a new type of green and environmentally friendly plastic plasticizer, are non-toxic and odorless. They can replace traditional phthalate plasticizers and are widely used in food and medical instrument packaging, cosmetics, daily necessities, toys, military supplies, and other fields. They are also important chemical intermediates. Among these, citrate esters demonstrate superior performance and broader applications. Beyond serving as non-toxic, odorless green plasticizers, they function as stabilizers for polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC) and as adhesion promoters for bonding films to metals. Their bonded materials maintain strong adhesion even after prolonged immersion in water.
